Before I got pregnant, I was active and physically fit. A high-risk pregnancy, which included gestational diabetes and a difficult delivery, left me at my highest weight ever with diminished self-confidence.
I knew this was a problem but didn’t know how to address it. I kept waiting for that “aha” moment. After seeing a photo taken of myself during a family camping trip, it clicked. I was focused and determined to develop a better version of myself.
My employer, White & Case, LLP, hosted a wellness incentive program to determine physical and mental goals. I made a telehealth appointment with Marathon Health Coach and Registered Nurse Eileen McKeown, who helped kickstart my wellness journey.
For the first time in a while, I felt a boost of energy that had been dormant. My family had the opportunity to relocate, which gave me a fresh start. I changed how I eat, sleep and exercise. I drink water and take vitamins. I’ve lost 65 pounds and am down to my pre-child physique. I consider myself at the peak of my fitness goals. I feel amazing in my own skin, confident and strong.
I strive to maintain a healthy balance between family responsibilities and self-care. I talk to coaches and counselors about my thoughts, and I’m lucky to have a supportive husband.
Achieving better health shouldn’t be forced. Make little strides each day and establish a routine. Repetition is the best path to success. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Everyone is different. Reach out to the Marathon Health coaches and counselors. I’m glad I did. – Member Amanda Wilkinson
