I have struggled with my weight for years. Being overweight made me feel sluggish, caused body aches, and made me more susceptible to developing health issues related to obesity.
In May 2020, I changed my eating habits and started a low-carb diet. I learned about the Keto lifestyle, studied how to read nutrition labels, and increased my water intake. I also participated in several of the weight management programs frequently offered at our Lee County Electric Co-op Wellness Center.
Barbara Bustillo-Lewin, PA, is an awesome person who is always there to give advice, offer assistance, and provide support. With her help, I lost 60 pounds and feel so much better! I have much more energy and the body aches have diminished, especially in my knees and hips.
After struggling with low HDL cholesterol levels for a time, I also focused on bringing those up. Changing my eating habits improved my levels and allowed me to do much more activity without feeling tired as quickly as before. I now enjoy walking for exercise!
I haven’t met my weight loss goal, but I’m confident I will reach it. Maintaining the changes in my eating habits isn’t a job anymore — I know what I can and cannot eat. I also keep all the unhealthy items out of my home to help me succeed.
It’s a mental battle to prepare for any big lifestyle change. Ask yourself how badly you want to change, and make it fun and rewarding!
