I went to the Hampton City Schools Employee Health & Wellness Center following the birth of my child. I was having a difficult time getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight and had joint pain in my hips, knees, and feet. The pain really flared up when I tried to walk for exercise.
That’s when Marathon Health’s Desiree Outlaw, FNP, became my health coach. From the beginning, she encouraged me through her own stories and let me share my experiences. Just lending an ear is really all I needed to get started.
My journey has only begun, but so far I’ve lost 11 pounds thanks to increased water, fruit, and vegetable intake. I juice regularly and have increased my physical activity to three days a week for 30 minutes. I enjoy Zumba, FitOn, and walking. The health advice Desiree gives me is an added bonus, from making schedules to setting monthly goals.
My health improvements give me more energy and allow me to share this ride called life with my husband and children. I include them in my exercises and food choices, so they can join me in this healthy lifestyle.
I’m 35 with a healthy heart and an able body that just needs to move more and consume less to improve my BMI and prevent future health issues. If you are in a similar stage of your life, don’t give up. You are your own number one supporter, but an extra push behind you helps. Marathon Health is a great nudging friend.
