In a recent Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) survey, 77% of respondents reported difficulties recruiting for full-time roles. With low unemployment rates and the number of job openings outpacing available workers, competition for talent remains fierce.

HR leaders are forced to think outside the box to implement enticing benefits that give their talent acquisition strategies a boost. Healthcare benefits are consistently rated the most important benefit to job seekers, making it an ideal place to invest.

“The vast majority of organizations across the United States are only going to be successful if they can attract, develop and retain the best people,” says Jeff Wells, MD, CEO and Co-founder of Marathon Health. “People have a very high expectation of holistic health and wellbeing as a part of the employer value proposition. There’s an expectation for employers to create an environment that helps employees be their best. When employees are at their best emotionally, psychologically and physically, they’re going to be in the best position to drive the best outcomes.”

Advanced Primary Care and recruiting

Even with insurance, the rising cost of healthcare places tremendous burden on U.S. workers. KFF polling shows 48% of insured adults worry about affording their monthly health insurance premium. In addition, many adults with employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) or Marketplace coverage rate their insurance as “fair” or “poor” when it comes to their monthly premium and out-of-pocket costs to see a doctor.

Alternative solutions that seek to reduce cost without sacrificing healthcare quality or access, like advanced primary care, can be a persuasive part of a benefits package built to recruit top talent.

What is Advanced Primary Care?

Advanced primary care is a healthcare model where employers or services partner directly with providers to deliver comprehensive medical care to their employees, typically at little to no cost to workers. This direct relationship eliminates many traditional healthcare system barriers.

Advanced primary care is also referred to as a value-based solution. Whereas the traditional healthcare model incentivizes providers for the number of patients they see and tests they run, providers are rewarded for results in a value-based model.

With Marathon Health’s advanced primary care model, providers spend longer with patients, building relationships and focusing on total wellness. This drives better health outcomes and lowers the total cost of care. Results include:

  • $1,800 annual savings per employee who uses Marathon Health
  • 67% patients improving biometrics measures
  • 42% reduction in ER and inpatient costs
  • 95% patient satisfaction rate

“Marathon Health sees, on average, two patients every hour,” says Eric Neuville, Marathon Health VP and Health Care Consultant. “Then, you can really treat patients. That’s the beauty of the model. And there are a ton of claims savings, because our providers practice to the top of their license versus shuttling patients off to a specialist. We refer at the right time, not the convenient time.”
