When I started to experience symptoms of tingling in my hands and feet and frequent urination, I went to the emergency room and found out I had uncontrolled diabetes.
My employer City of Fort Lauderdale partners with Marathon Health, so I visited Physician Assistant Lisette Novar and Registered Dietitian and Health Coach Wendy Petusevsky at the City of Fort Lauderdale Health and Wellness Center. We talked about changing my eating habits and taking my medications. I cut out sodas and fast food from my diet and started to eat more vegetables and fruits. They also helped me stick to my appointments by providing convenient early morning hours and a lab onsite where they could draw my blood.
Taking control of my diabetes relieved the pain in my feet and hands, which helped me feel better so I can take care of my family and work. It gave me more energy, too. I was always tired and fatigued. I would say my health has improved and is the best yet. I feel completely different and better than last year. I am less agitated and have better interpersonal relationships. When I was feeling sick years ago, I had no patience.
My provider and dietitian helped get me on track. My eating patterns have improved dramatically. I would tell members to come to the wellness center for help. I did and I am a happy and healthy person, able to work and live with less ailments. — Darryl Blackman, Marathon Health Member
