My fire service physical revealed high blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose levels. Kimberly Corn, RN health coach, and Jennifer Turner, PA, at the Lexington County Employee Health & Wellness Center helped me lose weight and better manage my type 2 diabetes. Not only that, I improved my blood work results and my general fitness.
Kimberly coached me on how to get my diabetes under control with diet and medications. She continues to keep me on track through healthy choices and exercise. Jennifer helped me reach my weight-loss goals by monitoring my medications and adjusting them as needed. I also benefitted from taking a class on diabetic living through the wellness center.
My A1c decreased from 9.8 to 6.5, my cholesterol is within normal range, and I’ve lost 75 pounds. Diagnosed with fatty liver disease, my liver enzymes were way off. They’re now normal for the first time in 15 years, and my blood platelet count is in the normal range for the first time ever.
I’m in my best shape since high school, and I’m setting an example for my wife and daughter. I have fewer aches and pains and generally have a lot more energy.
Every day has its challenges, but Kimberly made me feel as if I were her only patient. Jennifer was the same — getting excited as my health improved. Without help from the Marathon Health team, I’m not sure I would have been able to reach my goals.
