After chemotherapy treatments, I developed osteoporosis and broke four bones in one year, including both of my wrists. Caring for myself, even at an elementary level, was difficult while managing the pain associated with a double surgery and recovery. I couldn’t use either arm and developed depression and anxiety.
I had just moved to a new state and started a new job. Fearful and isolated, I made an appointment at Chatham County Employee Health Center using Marathon Health benefits offered by the Chatham County Government.
I began seeing Registered Nurse and Health Coach Janice Johnson (JJ). I spoke with JJ weekly and she helped me develop relaxation and stress management techniques. Now I incorporate meditation, exercise, aroma therapy, and humor into daily life.
After my bones healed, I began seeing Family Nurse Practitioner Sarah Warren on a quarterly basis to manage my chronic condition. Having recently moved from the Northeast, JJ and Sarah provided me with a sense of calm and belonging as I adjusted to my new environment and worked toward recovery.
Every day is a gift and my health is improving. I know JJ, Sarah, and the entire team at the employee health center are there if I need them. Take the first step and make an appointment. Whether it’s in person or virtual, Marathon Health is very convenient. – Member April Leavy
