After experiencing a life-changing personal event in 2020, my anxiety skyrocketed. I couldn’t sleep or eat, and I suffered from bouts of nausea, fear and depression. I lost 20 pounds and felt anxious every day. I lost my motivation to do anything.
At first, I took some time away to surround myself with family, who I leaned on heavily for support. As grateful as I was for their love, it became clear that I needed to see a professional.
Luckily, I had the O’Connell Wellness Center, which I’m eligible to use through my St. Johns County School District health plan. Joan Wyatt, MD, had served as my primary care physician for the previous two years, so I felt comfortable turning to her during this dark time.
As expected, Dr. Wyatt treated me with compassion, listened to my problems, and guided me through the process. She provided many options for anxiety medications, explained the differences, and recommended which might be the best option for me.
But I didn’t stop there. I improved my eating habits and started exercising regularly. I reduced my alcohol consumption and began meditating at home.
Today, I feel 100 percent happier and healthier. Soon, Dr. Wyatt and I will discuss the possibility of stopping my anxiety medication. I feel I’m ready to move on without them, and I am so excited.
I love my Marathon Health wellness center. It’s easy to make appointments and the staff is professional and competent. I rely on Dr. Wyatt’s knowledge and appreciate how caring she is toward her patients.
