I felt tired and worried about chronic health conditions related to carrying excess weight. A biometric screening at our plant showed me I had to do something different.
I went to see Elizabeth Dunklau, FNP, at Marathon Health as part of my employer-based benefits with Cargill. She talked with me about the foods I should eat and those to avoid. Now I understand what happens in my body when I eat certain foods, which makes the lifestyle change easier.
My family is totally on board. We now buy more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. I was surprised to learn it’s actually cheaper to buy healthy, fresh foods instead of the unhealthy convenience foods we bought before.
Elizabeth and I also created an exercise plan to fit my busy life. I didn’t think I had enough time or energy to do it before, but I’m so happy I’ve implemented exercise into my routine.
The overall results are amazing! It has been great being in control of my health, and I feel more optimistic. I’ve lost 32 pounds in just three months.
I’m so happy my family joined me. They’re proud of me and I’m proud of them for embracing these healthy changes. Even my dog is healthier – we go for walks now nearly every day!
For anyone who wants to improve their habits as I did, don’t be afraid of your current weight or health issues. YOU have the ability to take control, just like me. Don’t wait until serious problems happen to make the change.
