Since my 20s, I had struggled withanxiety, PTSD, and depression. I had trouble in all aspects of life, from work to relationships. Depression made it difficultto find happiness in my life.
Determinedtolearn how I could betterhandle the everyday stresses of life, I sought out behavioral health counselingwith Sherri Guinn, LPC atthe Empower Wellness Center.
Sherrihelped me learn new ways to develop and change. We worked to find theroot causes of my mental state andI learned how to focus on the positives in life when I feltdown or depressed.
I now use coping mechanisms when my anxiety starts toescalate.Usinga journal and letterwriting, I now expel my thoughtsinstead of letting them stay in my mindwhere theyonly get worse.
This work haschanged every part of my life. I haven’t had a panic attack in six months. I’ve successfully moved up in my career, and am expecting my first child. Ifeel better about myself and amhappier than I’ve ever been. I now have stable relationships and smile more. I knowmyworth and my capabilities. I could never see that in the past.
Mental illness is like any other illness – itdoesn’t makeyou weak or less of a person. The sooner you get help, the faster you can find healing. It was a big step for me to go to Sherri for counseling, but it’s one I’ll be forever grateful I made.
