My company CHG offers annual biometric screenings for employees through Marathon Health. My cholesterol numbers have never been good, and I found out my blood pressure was a bit high. After getting COVID in December 2020, I had some random issues with coughing and panic attack-like symptoms. I was taking three to four medications a day, which was alarming. Being overweight was a lifelong challenge for me.
I met with physician assistant Randy Archibald at the Marathon Health at Draper Peaks network center. He was helpful and supportive.
Last year I turned 50, and I decided it was going to be a year of self-care to take care of my body, emotions, and soul. I wanted to be a better version of myself. For the first three months, I mainly changed my diet to lose weight. Then I added 30 minutes of a light workout, and then downloaded a yoga app. I really enjoy it. Yoga has become part of my bedtime routine, and I have no excuse to skip it.
I've lost 31 pounds in eight months. I no longer have panic attack-like symptoms. My blood pressure is back to normal, and the doctor gave me permission to stop taking my blood pressure medication. My energy level is great, and I feel younger. I no longer have heartburn or bloating.
A person's mind is powerful. I was ready, so I could physically and emotionally follow through with my plan to improve my health.
I tell people to find your motivation on why you want to change. Celebrate the small wins. I rewarded myself with a trip to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
